Kulzer Gluma Desensitizer, Standard Bottle Refill is used for treating cervical and dentinal hypersensitivity, giving clinicians a one-step chairside desensitizer that goes on as a single drop with no mixing and no light curing. When a patient has a sensitive cervical area or reports a lingering ache after a restoration, the drop is placed on the exposed dentin and the appointment moves on within about a minute.
The desensitizer also serves as the dentin-sealing step before crown and bridge cementation.
Each pack contains 1 bottle at 5 mL of liquid desensitizer. The formula is 5% glutaraldehyde and 35% HEMA in water, and it is a self-cured liquid, so no light and no mixing are involved. The desensitizer is compatible with all bonding and restorative materials, and it is used with composite, compomer, and amalgam restorations.
The single-step application keeps the treatment short, and the liquid is dispensed from the bottle one drop at a time, so only the amount needed is used. Cervical hypersensitivity is common at exposed root surfaces, and a sealed tubule stops the fluid movement that triggers the pain.
The desensitizer is applied to the dentin, left for the brief contact time, and air-dried to a matte surface, after which the restorative or cementation step follows. The glutaraldehyde reacts with serum albumin in the tubule fluid and precipitates it, and the HEMA carries the reaction into the tubule, which stabilizes the plug and helps seal the tubule against microbial entry.
The solution reaches up to 200 microns into the exposed tubules. As a pretreatment before priming and bonding, it supports direct composite restorations, and it is applied before compomer and amalgam placement as well, so the existing adhesive system stays unchanged, and the desensitizer needs no mixing, curing, or repetitive steps in any of these uses. The treatment can be repeated at a later visit if sensitivity returns, and one 5 mL bottle serves many patients.
